Stars` win puts Csaba in trouble

If coach Laszlo Csaba`s Cranes do not go past Taifa Stars in the Africa Nations Championship qualifier, FUFA will review his contract.

``His (Csaba) contract is clear about performance and if it is consistently poor, we shall be forced to review it. Let`s first give him chance. He has the Tanzania game to prove himself,`` FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa said according to the ``New Vision`` of Uganda.

Asked by a caller why the Cranes have persistently drawn or lost away games despite signing the Hungarian, who assumed the job in 2006, the FUFA boss said they are constantly appraising the coach.

FUFA and Csaba have in the past two weeks held several closed meetings to discuss national teams` performances and disagreements between themselves. Csaba, 44, has managed draws with Lesotho and Niger and a loss to Nigeria in the last CAN qualifiers away.

His biggest achievement was a win against Nigeria in the failed 2008 Ghana bid. But his coaching tactics have since then drawn increased criticism with a 2-0 defeat to Tanzania in CHAN round one, first leg in Mwanza last week.

The Cranes launch their World Cup campaign against Niger in Kampala on May 31. Last year, a Swiss national Raoul Savoy sought Csaba`s job but the federation insisted Csaba was the man for the top job. 
The coach has recently been unhappy with the federation for failing to avail players for national duty because of the busy league fixtures.

Next week`s Super League fixtures have been postponed to give the coach more time before the return leg against Tanzania. In response Mulindwa said that the coach spends a lot of time grumbling on trivial issues instead of concentrating on his squads

Dar set to start inter-cities preps

Dar es Salaam basketball teams will start training to prepare for the East and Central African Inter-cities Championship.The championship is expected to take off from June 24-28 at Indoor Stadium and TCC Chang`ombe grounds in Dar es Salaam.

The team`s coach, Zabron Manase, said yesterday that the men`s team would train at Zanaki ground while women would train at UDP grounds. ``Currently I have 30 players in my team, 15 ladies and 15 males. The team will be later reduced to 24,` Manase said.

He said nine cities had so far confirmed to compete in the regional championship. They are the host Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Arusha, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kampala, Addis Ababa and Kigali.
